Home > Emilia-Romagna > Bologna > Bologna > Collegio di Spagna
The Collegio di Spagna in Bologna is a two-floor building with its rooms distributed around a porched central courtyard.
It is surrounded by a wall with battlements and has a prestigious portal dating back to 1525: work of Formigine. The cast-iron balconies which are situated in front of some of the windows show gracefull "Azulejos" (rich murals on tiles) which give the whole area a Spanish air.
Obviously, the college hosted the numerous foreign students, above all Spanish. among the most well known students: Ignazio di Loyola, Miguel Cervantes, and Carlo V who only stayed for four days before being crowned in the Basilica di San Petronio.
The rooms which are on the external side are all doted with merlons, and the portal is really noteworthy: work of Farmigine.
