Palazzo Bocchi
Home > Emilia-Romagna > Bologna > Bologna > Palazzo BocchiPalazzo Bocchi is situated in Bologna in what is nowadays known as the via Goito, and was built between 1545 and 1560 for want of Achille Bocchi, famous for being a cultured philosopher, and who made it the seat of the Accademia Ermatena, founded by himself.
The building was designed by Vignola who was assisted by Bocchi. The very masculine and imposing architecture served as a model for many other constructions and is an exceptional example of classical Italian architecture.
In the basement of Palazzo Bocchi there are some inscriptions by Orazio in Latin as well as some passages from the Bible in Hebrew. On the ground floor, in a vaulted room which is the seat of the Accvademia Ermatena, one can find "Divinità dell'Olimpo" painted by Bartolomeo Cesi, whilst of the work by Prospero Fontana remains only the fresco's in the vault and an "Ercole" above the fireplace.
