Basilica di Santo Spirito
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Basilica di Santo Spirito
In the homonymous square, the Renaissance-style Basilica di Santo Spirito was the last project by Brunelleschi who began the construction which was finished by A. Manetti and Salvi d'Andrea. It has a thin belfry constructed in the 16th century by Baccio D'Angelo.
The inside is majestic. It has a Latin cross layout and the characteristic of the church is the series of columns which divide the three naves which are surmounted by very light arches.
The dome is held up by pillars and the high and tight, lateral niches give a shadowed effect.
The circular window in the facade was designed by Perugino; the rich alter is in Baroque style and is protected from above by a bored dome, and from the front by a marble railing.
