Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Church of Santa Maria Novella
The Church of Santa Maria Novella is to be found in the homonymous square. Work for its construction began in 1426 for want of the Dominican monks.
The carved facade was designed by Leon Battista Alberti. The inferior part is in Gothin style whilst the superior part is in Renaissance style and bears a classical rose window.
The inside is Gothic, one can admire "La Trinità" by Masaccio and works by Ghirlandaio and Filippino Lippi. There is a beautiful wooden crucifix by Brunelleschi, and fresco's by Paolo Uccello on the walls.
