Corridoio Vasariano
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Corridoio VasarianoBuilt by Vasari, famous artist and biographer, in 1564, and wanted by Cosimo 1st dè Medici, it connects Palazzo Pitti to Palazzo Vecchio passing over the portico of the Chiesa di Santa Felicità, by the Galleria degli Uffizi, and over the shops on the Ponte Vecchio.
The corridor Vasariano was reserved to the Grand Dukes who could freely move from their houses to the Government Palace. The noblemen who used the corridor obliged the butcher shops that were present of the Ponte Vecchio to move because of the smell caused by their activity, which gave way to the ever-present goldsmiths.
It is more than 1Km long and hosts paintings and a collection of self-portraits including those by Guercino, Rubens, Rembrant, Velasquez, and a collection of paintings by the followers of Caravaggio.
