Giardino di Boboli
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Giardino di Boboli
Access to the Giardino di Boboli is from the courtyard of Palazzo Pitti. It is an example of an Italian garden conceived by Tribolo, Ammannati, and Buontalenti who began work in the 16th century. Construction went on until the 19th century.
In a panoramic position the Grotta Grande was built. On each side of the entrance there are two statues, Bacco and Cerere, work of Baccio Bandinelli, and the couple of "I Prigioni di Michelangelo".
In the centre of the garden there is a beautiful spot called the "Bacino dell'Isola" with a statue dell'Abbondanza, surrounded by various flowerbeds.
After a period of abandonment, new buildings rose: the Limonaia and the palazzina della Meridiana.
