Museo San Marco
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Museo San Marco
The Museo San Marco is situated in the homonymous square and its seat is in the Convento Domenicano di San Marco which was restored by Michelozzo in the 15th century.
Next to the Church there is a large cloister, the hospice for the pilgrims, the refectory, and the kitchens.
Famous religious characters spent their lives in the convent, amongst whom Beato Angelico who, with his plates and fresco's, decorated the rooms and the cells and gave his name to the Museum, also called "Dell'Angelico".
Girolamo Savonarola lived here and was the Superior of the convent. He was called to Florence by Lorenzo il Magnifico, and became his opponent. He was burnt at the stake in Piazza della Signoria.
