Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Palazzo Medici Riccardi
Palazzo Medici Riccardi is a building from the 15th century constructed by Michelozzo between 1444 and 1460. It has three floors which are characterised by a stone covering which is protruding on the ground floor, levelled out on the second floor, and smooth on the third. It is embraced by an important cornice.
On the ground floor, in a corner, there are two large windows attributed to Michelangelo, whilst on the facade there are elegant double-arched windows.
Its name is due to Cosimo 1st and Lorenzo dè Medici who lived in the building. In the 1800's is was home to the Marchesi Riccardi.
Nowadays, in its rooms there is the seat of the Prefecture.
In the Chapel of the building there is a famous fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli "Andata dei Magi a Gerusalemme".
