Piazza San Lorenzo has a rectangular shape and the homonymous Basilica is to be found on the far end next to the cloisters and the Bioblioteca Medicea Laurentiana. It was designed by Michelangelo and on the right hand side there is the statue of "Giovanni della Bande Nere" mounted on a large base with a fountain.
The square is always animated in so much as it hosts, in a large pavilion, a daily market: "Mercato Centrale"
