Station of Santa Maria Novella

The railway station of Santa Maria Novella was designed around 1940 and was the first railway station in Florence.
It was built close to the homonymous church and four chapels. It was abandoned and improved during the 30's.
A competition was published and the winners created one of the most important rationalistic works of architecture. So as to harmonise it with the church, the same stone was used. Inside the station the pillars were surrounded by benches and shelves (for bagage) with very innovative shapes.
