Church of Santa Chiara
Home > Emilia-Romagna > Rimini > Rimini > Church of Santa ChiaraThe Church of Santa Chiara is to be found close to the Arco d'Augusto, in Rimini.
Its construction dates back to the XIV century and was work of the nuns from the Order of Saint Claire.
Inside there is a painting of the Madonna della Misericordia painted by Giuseppe Soleri who had donated it to his sister, Sister Claire who, successively donated it to the church.
This painting is venerated because, in 1850, the Madonna moved her eyes. Legend has it that this miracle repeated itself at intervals for eight consecutive months.
The image of the Madonna towers over the apse, surrounded by gold plated, wooden rays. Two angels sustain the artistic frame in gold, silver, and precious gems which contains the painting.
The present Temple was built in six months thanks to the offers of the faithful, by Giovanni Benedettini who substituted the preceding church because it was considered too small to host the large number of church goers.
