Palazzo Gambalunga - Biblioteca

The Biblioteca Civica Gambalunga in Rimini is found in the homonymous road and building. The building which hosts the Library since 1619 was built by the nobleman Alessandro Gambalunga who left both the building and the library to the Municipality. It is the third Italian Public Library, and it is also the first Civic Library in Italy according to what Paola Delbianco writes. The first librarian was Michele Moretti who acquired the two globes in 1622.

The big entrance door faces a courtyard at the centre of which there is an Istria stone well. On the last floor there are the granaries, the servants and the farmers rooms. The noble floor, which nowadays hosts the Library, hosted the apartments of Alessandro Gambalunga and his wife. Here, together with the Multimedia Library, one finds the four historical rooms with original furnishings and Library material. After his death, the Library was moved to the ground floor.

Presently it is used by students for social and study purposes.
