Pieve Romanica di San Salvatore
Home > Emilia-Romagna > Rimini > Rimini > Pieve Romanica di San SalvatoreThe Pieve Romanica di San Salvatore rises in a hilly and natural environment which gives serenity and is a very simple construction both for the material used - blocks of stone and bricks, probably obtained from other constructions - and for its architecture.
The facade is decorated by a simple embossment on the door with a pointed arch and a rosette on the top, however the vision makes one think of the first diffusion of Christianity.
The construction seems to date back to the XII century, however its charm derives from a mythological Greek legend according to which the daughter of Bacco Deianira stayed in this place leaving a part of a column as a momento which, over time, was substituted by a small temple dedicated to Zeus or to Ceres (a Roman grain divinity).
Inside, with its single nave, there are four Roman capitals from the VI century and traces on the flooring of columns which lead us to believe that the construction originally ahd three naves.
On the main alter there is a noteworthy work by Cesare Ferronato which represents San Salvatore.
Outside there is a tombstone dated 1318 with an epigraph of the artist Rainaldo which confirms the presence of a religious group.
