Temple of Saturn
Home > Lazio > Rome > Rome > Temple of Saturn
The Tempio di Saturno (Temple of Saturn) was built in Rome in the Foro Romano (Roman Forum), beside the Portico degli Dei Consenti, during the first years of the Republican era.
The Temple underwent various reconstructions up to the year 42 a.C., and was constructed thanks to the Siria war chest.
In this period the Temple was made of cement which had been covered in travertine, whilst the eight columns, the architrave, and the gable are largely made from recycled material.
The podium of the Temple was used for the publication of laws and public documents.
That which is still visible, with regard to the remains of the building, is the result of a restoration carried out at the end of the IV century and include the grey and pink granite pillar trunks, and the Ionic, four-sided capitals.
Recycled material was also employed for the entablature, whilst the frame with its shelves were originally from the Munazio Planco building.
