Piazzale Michelangelo
Home > Tuscany > Florence > Florence > Piazzale MichelangeloSituated in a panoramic place, the Belvedere di Firenze from which one can see the Basilica di Santa Croce, the Arno river with its bridges, the Duomo, the Bargello, and in the background, Fiesole and Settignano.
Piazzale Michelangelo was designed by architect G. Poggi, and realised in 1865, year in which Florence was the capital of Italy.
The square can be admired after having walked down a tree-lined avenue which is about 8 Km long. Once in the square one can see a copy of the David by Michelangelo and, around it, the copies of the statues which he sculpted for the tombs of the De Medici family.
