Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica
Home > Lombardy > Milan > Milan > Museo della Scienza e della TecnicaThe Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica "Leonardo da Vinci" in Milan is to be found where there was once an Olivetan Monastery and, before that, a Benedictine Convent. The Museum was inaugurated on 15th February 1953 in the presence of Alcide De Gasperi who, at the time, was Prime Minister. Recently the word "tecnica" in the name of the museum has been changed into "tecnologia". Since its beginnings, the Museum has wanted to cover the history of technology, profoundly interweaved with that of scientific discoveries.
With its 40,000 square metres, the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica in Milan is the largest Italian Museum completely dedicate to the scientific and technological world. Inside there are more than 10,000 objects divided into 17 exhibitions.
Another particularity of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum is the presence of the interactive didactic workshops organised by different Departments: Material, Energy, Transport, Leonardo, Communication, Art and Science, and Science for Infants. These workshops aim to teach visitors and students by using methods which involve participants and, therefore, are very much appreciated by both children and adolescents.
The Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica in Milan is open all days except Monday and is easily reached by public transport as it is situated in the centre of the city, a few yards away from the Church of Saint Ambrogio and from the homonymous underground station. For visitors who are interested in spending more than one day in the Lombardy capital, there are many hotels available in and around Milan which are well equipped for tourist use.
